[Lyric]

LYR'IC (Gr. lyrikos, from lyra, 'a lyre') the name given by the Greeks to a kind of poetry originally set to the music of the lyre. L. poetry is the expression of the poet's own feelings, and has all the vivid charm of personality. We are invited to share in the love, hate, joy, or grief of a human being like ourselves, and the doors of our heart are insensibly thrown wide. The song, either sacred or secular, is the finest form of the L.
